Ours is a small country on the Balkans with a territory of 111,000 sq. km and a population of about 8 mln. It is located at the crossroads of many cultures, nations and religions - a geographical fact that has led to both benefits and suffering. Bulgaria’s rich historical heritage dating back to the foundation of the state in 681 and even further back to the first settlements sited here that originated in the fourth - eighth millennium BC has been preserved in numerous museums, monasteries, and special sites. Its natural, historical, and cultural wealth make it a perfect place for foreign visitors.
